Your anchor text strategy is one of the most important pasts of pagerank in SEO, so you need a strategy that gives you the highest possible weight for pagerank and SERPS.
What Should Your Anchor Text Strategy Be?
Simple! Your strategy is that you should always use the anchor text that uses your top traffic niche keywords that the page you’re:
1. Getting a link from (i.e. from an external site, something you may be able to influence but ultimately cannot control) or…
2. Giving a link to (for links within your own site, something you can control and therefore MUST take advantage of for anchor-texting all of your internal links with the right keywords).
How to Employ Your Anchor Text Link Strategy
1. Always remember that each page stands on its own for a search engine results page and SEO.
Therefore, when you optimize a page for SEO be sure you know exactly the top short or long tail keywords that page uses. Be sure the anchor text that links to that page uses that exact keyword or keyword combo, in 80% of your anchor text incoming links.
For the other 20%, be sure to include some variations of your main keywords (singular, plural, an additional word or two, other variations and synonyms – because this is the most natural way.)
2. Always ask other sites for the exact anchor text phrase they should use to link to you.
