Social Media Trust Building vs Going It Alone in the Blogosphere
The web is all about trust. There is a lot of stuff to NOT trust out there such as:
- scams
- phishing
- poor content
- scrapers
- splogs
How can you defend yourself against the untrusted?
Use things to protect yourself such as:
- Web of Trust
- McAfee Site Advisor
- AVG Antivirus site advisor program
- Bad Neighborhood Lists
- Wikis and Comments or ratings about sites
Every Link is a Trust Choice
Realize that EVERY time you click on a link, that is a trust-based choice. Can and should you trust it? If not, don’t click.
A Google search gives you 10 results. What links can you trust from the 10 list? You don’t know. So use 2-3 good programs like
- Web of Trust
- McAfee Site Advisor
- AVG Antivirus site advisor program
To be sure you get a pre-read of trust before you visit. Never visit if one of the indicators are yellow or red or not yet rated. Visit only if green. Simple but effective 99% of the time.
