In part 1 of this article Making Money online Is Not Always All It’s Cracked Up to Be…

I talked about some examples that Forbes.com talked about for who makes money online and some of the reality of how much some actually make versus what you always see and hear pitched in some sales marketing scheme.  In this article, I’ll touch on Google Adsense for making money online.

I’ve Tried Google Adsense

One article at about.com about making money online had more reality than others I’ve read, and said quite correctly, “To pick up some extra pennies, sign up for Google AdSense. It probably won’t generate a lot of revenue, but it’s free to sign up and completely effortless to maintain.”

The article also said of affiliate programs, “you’re going to make 5% on most products. That means that you need to sell $400 worth of stuff to make back your investment. To make $20 an hour, what you write must generate $400 worth of purchases.

You get credit for other purchases made while at Amazon besides just the product you linked to, so it’s not as hard as it may sound. It won’t make you rich, but it’s not hard to be profitable, and it builds over time.”

A Geek I Am Not – Are You?

The programmers who invented Google or Microsoft or other sites and products were…read it again…PROGRAMMERS.  they were pure geeks.  Are you a programmer or geek?

I guarantee 80% of you reading this are not and the 20% that are, less than 1/10th of 1% of you will program the next cool thing.

The percentage of creating the next big thing is almost nil.  6 billion people in the world competing.  Good luck.  And many who are successful online are geeks, yet the majority who want to be successful are non-geeks who do NOT want to become geeks.

Even web 2.0 requires some learning and geekification if you will.  You have to learn the basics or you won’t do very well.

So Who makes the Millions?  In my estimation based on what I have seen:

  • Geeks and programmers (30%)
  • Extreme opportunists (30%)
  • Cheaters, tricksters and scammers (30%)
  • Non-Geeks (10%)

The honest workers that are non-geeks are the minority.  The scammers make up a big chunk of who currently make money online, unfortunately.  What a shame!

So Remember, making money online does not happen overnight and yet you will need to learn some geek stuff.  I’m just being honest.  But don’t let that stop you.

If you really want to make it big online, you will make it big and make lots of money online!  How bad do you want to?  Your answer lies in your effort and persistence, not in your words.
