Jakob Nielsen on Specialized Niche Sites and Not Mixing Topics pt 1
Jakob Nielsen on Specialized Niche Sites and Not Mixing Topics
Just as I posted about in my previous post for the best niche site strategy and the ONLY niche site strategy – sticking to one topic (and the subtopics – categories- and posts (using tags) that fit well underneath it and within that theme).
Jakob Nielsen also makes a great point about specialized sites that if you’re sporadic then people looking for niche information will not like that too much and probably not come back. That’s not good.
Nielsen then says perhaps the most powerful few words that can be said so concisely about a Niche or what he calls a “specialized site”. He says, “Specialized sites rule the Web, so aim tightly.” No more succinct advice could be given for any niche you start to blog about.
How to Apply This Knowledge To Blogging /Making Money Online
If you have the urge to speak out on, say, both American foreign policy and the business strategy of eBay, then establish two blogs on those topics or where those two topics fit. But don’t try to mix apples and oranges.
Jakob Nielsen Also Says This About Specialized Sites:
Jakob Nielsen says that specialized sites rule the web
Jakob Nielsen also mentions yet again 3 very powerful and concise things about specialized niches that are entire topics of discussion in and of themselves.
These are 4 things that Jakob Nielsen said, which really stuck out, about how small Niche sites rule the web, more than the big sites,
1.“Small websites get less traffic than big ones, but they can still dominate their niches”
2.“Specialization Means Nobody Rules the Web”
3.“Small is Beautiful (and Profitable) on the Web”
4.“Big sites may be bigger, but smaller sites will keep scoring higher for specialized topics, both in terms of their connections with users and in terms of each visit’s commercial value.”
In Part 2 of Jakob Nielsen On Specialized Niche Sites and Not Mixing Topics, I will talk about why these 4 things are so important in the Web 2.0 economy and how Niche sites should continue to rule.
