How Much Blog Site Traffic Should I Get By When? pt3
Does The Blog Traffic Glass Ceiling Affect Your Money Making Blog or Website?
To answer that we must answer another question first. What is the Blog Traffic Glass Ceiling? It’s something I have called what I have found to be an artificial barrier that is similar to the Peter Principle, but for Blogs.
The Peter Principle says that people usually get promoted to their highest level of incompetence. What it means is you will only go up so high, until you reach the point where you have reached as high as you ever should go based on various things such as your skills, ability, knowledge and willingness to go further.
For a blog, it may reach a certain level of visitor traffic and never go beyond that because that is where that market niche interested in that kind of blog and information, peaks out.
So I call this peak out a glass ceiling, and an artificial one. Why artificial? Because it could end up being broken by some new trend, fad or other market variable. But typically, 80% of the time or more, it won’t and so as a rule of thumb the rule holds true.
Why is this important for you to know?
Again, this is about expectation management. What I mean is, you can’t set goals too high for what’s realistic.
I used to have a couple bosses who said that your goal should be the very top, #1. They just didn’t get it. Sometimes you just can’t. you have to know your limits.
Otherwise, if I carried their logic to the proper conclusions, I would say that the whole world could theoretically have the goal of becoming as good a basketball player as Michael Jordan. That’s ignorant.
Be realistic with your blog goals and expectations
If other blogs in your niche only get 10,000 unique visits a month and your main keywords also only get in that range per month, don’t expect to land 100,000 a month unless you have some unusually unique long-tail keyword SEO strategy you’d like to share.
As a general rule, you should see the 10,000 per month rate as your top goal, and artificial glass ceiling. That way you’re being realistic. I hope that makes sense.
