How Much Site Traffic and By When?

This is a very relative question.  It all depends on the peaks of your niche for your money making blog.  You need to know your upper limits of your niche to really set your goals and plans.  You also need to be sure your niche is not so saturated that your timeline can’t be met.

I gave some scales to measure just such things as well as some of your expectations so you’ll learn to be much more realistic in my article How Much Blog Site Traffic Is Good vs. Not Enough Too Low.  If you read my article you will understand the answer to this question much better!

In this article I’ll give your traffic and expectations something to go by for when your site would start getting traffic and how much.  Remember this scale of site traffic success (based on unique visitors):

Let’s add one column to it as a by when.

Unique Visits/day   –   Unique/Month    –    Rating    –    By When

99 or less           2999 or less                   poor                   6 months

100-499             3000 – 14,999              ok                        1 year

500-999             15,000 – 29,999          good                  1.5 years

1000-1999         30,000-59,999           great                 1.5-3 yrs

2000-4999        60,000-149,999         excellent          3-4.5 yrs

5000 or more    150,000 or more       outstanding    4.5-6 yrs

How many years have you been blogging?

Now you know what your expectations should be, realistically.  Only in extraordinary and unusual circumstances will you do better than this, in my opinion.  I’d love to hear, if you were more successful than this, exactly how you did it!  Please share.

Also, know that your site or blog may have a Traffic Glass Ceiling that I talk about in my article  Does The Blog Traffic Glass Ceiling Affect Your Site?

By the way, if you don’t make much money with your blog, that alone is a good indicator you don’t get much traffic.  Even not-so-good blogs have made great sales when the traffic is huge.  Unfortunate but true, but less so today than before as search engines de-list the junk sites.

You need to manage some of your traffic goals and expectations with some realism.  The scale I give above is based on the Internet sites at large, not on your niche.

Maybe your niche scale should look like this:

99 or less           2999 or less             Good                1 year

100-499             3000 – 14,999        Great                2 years

500-999             15,000 – 29,999    Excellent        3 years

1000-1999        30,000-59,999     Outstanding    4 years

See how this is a bit relative?

Manage your expectations a bit and be realistic!  if your niche tops at 10,000 visits a month and you’re there, you’re on top and that’s outstanding!  Be proud.  Then Find the way to sustain that while you find the next niche to build out and up!

In part 2 of How Much Blog Site Traffic Should I Get By When? I will talk about staying realistic in light of these scales of visitors, as well as a common mistake to avoid when it seems like you are getting a lot of traffic to your money making website or blog.  Subscribe now so you don’t miss this!
