What is Mike’s Rule of 1 for Your Niche?

It says you should do 1 thing well, and 1 thng only, on the web, in a niche, at one time.  It also says You CANNOT be a generalist in the web business.  Not before, and especially not now.

Even I Made This Mistake

Yes this is (was?) MY biggest mistake.  Why?  Because I made this mistake over and over.  I refused to believe it.  For too long.  I learned a lot, and knew why I couldn’t get traffic.  I felt I could focus on more than one thing, more than one site, more than one focus.

You will do NOTHING WELL if you try to DO EVERYTHING.  If you try to do everything, nothing will get done…because when everything is a priority, then nothing is a priority.

Mike’s Rule of 1 for Your Niche – States Succinctly

You must go for ONE THEME, ONE NICHE CONCEPT.  A NICHE SITE is defined ONLY by this!

Your site can’t include stuff about photography, leadership, computer security and 5 other things if it’s about motorcycle maintenance.

None of those fit together and search engines will never understand this random sporadic process of humans, because they are based on the laws of math and logic.

Make It Easy For the Search Engines

So stop making it hard for the search engines and stick to one thing and one thing only.  And YES I admit I still have more than one, a handful actually.

BUT, the exception to the Mike’s Rule of 1 for your niche is this – if it’s more than 1 they should be related, and the more closely related the better.  Then you can sub-split them to ultra niche optimize them.

I talked about 2 additional and important pre-lunch strategies you must use, or that I highly recommend, for starting a money-making blog off on the right foot.

So here are 3 final pieces of advice for your pre-launch phase of your money making blog

5- Prepare as much content in advance of launching as you can.

This means writing as much content in as many categories as possible, and then setting it up to be posted at automatic intervals if possible.

By using a quick cut-and-paste template preferably from a notepad file containing your finalized content and keywords, you can quickly post your content when the time comes.

At the pace of posting about 3-4 articles a week, you will need to have 3 x 4 (12) or 4 x 4 (16) articles for every month or between 144 and 200 articles for every year.

I recommend creating content for at least 3-6 months in advance and a year if possible.  At a minimum, 1 month in advance.

A good strategy for this is to write an article and then find a way to turn it into a part 1 and 2 or part 1, 2 and 3 series.  You will triple the effect, keep the articles short and keep things simple and easy to read that way.

Another Strategy for Pre-Launch of a Money-Making Blog

6 - Launch when you are ready but also don’t wait for too long!  Be willing to make mistakes and learn by experience.  If you try to learn everything before you start, you’ll never start.

You must start to learn.  Experience is the best teacher no matter what anyone tells you.

I tried to read everything before I launched for a couple years, only to find that as I read it, things were changing and so I had to keep reading more and more.

I was not blogging and all the info was second hand knowledge.  I soon said forget that.  I finally got sick of it, put everything aside and did it and learned blogging on my own.

Then I read tidbits here and there and found what I agreed or disagreed with.  That is the best way to learn.  Learn by doing so you finally start today!

7 – Know Your Goals and Objectives For Your First Blog

What Should Your Goals and Objectives Be?  I say, at least these:

• To learn how to blog

• To learn what all is involved

• To learn the admin stuff…programs, setup, plugins, widgets, HTML, etc

• To learn the analytics stuff…tracking visitors, popular articles, etc.

• To learn link building

Plus whatever else you want them to be for your making money blogging!

Your Goals Should Also Consist of:

• Learning to write well – like an authoritative expert

• Know what is the best thing for you to blog about – your best fit for your talents, knowledge, skills, abilities and interests

• Discover the best money making and monetizing opportunities within those niches

• Set limits for if the site or concept doesn’t work and what you can learn as well as what you need to be realistic about, like not making millions overnight!

We’re Constantly Bombarded By Get Rich Quick Scams!

From late night infomercials about the next real estate get rich quick program to websites and videos, to other multilevel marketing schemes found in newspaper ads and other places.  Even books that some bookstores carry are full of this stuff.

Get Rich Quick Doesn’t Work for 80% or More of The People

The way these people make money off the get rich quick methods is by selling the sizzle, not the steak!  They sell you what sounds soooo good.

You’ve heard it all before:

• Try this new once in a lifetime super opportunity
• Learn the secrets others don’t know about
• Become the next millionaire next door
• Anybody can do this because I did it and so can you
• Don’t wait, this opportunity of a lifetime won’t last forever
• And on and on

Get Rich Quick Is Alive and Well Today

Well, here’s my response.  If anything sounds too good to be true these days it is.  Not probably.  Not maybe.  For sure.  Stop believing that this one thing just MIGHT be the thing that actually works because it just sounds so good.

People Will Say Anything if the Money is Right

Yes, this is the case even if any people are on the commercial saying it worked for them.  Shows on the reality channel have taught me one thing…that some people are willing to do some very low down, shameful, disgusting things even for a little money.

This tells me that no matter what these people say, they could be the biggest liars and scoundrels.  This is a shame but its true.  People will do what it takes to make a buck.

My Best Argument Against These Appealing Get Rich Quick Scams

Think about it.  Rich people would be buying up every available real estate opportunity they could, and there are enough rich people to do so.  They would have already bought everything up faster than the average person and be multiplying their riches and outsourcing all the work in all possible locations to do so.

Maybe a small percentage are still successful to keep the deception going that the majority can easily do something.  Exceptions prove the rule.  So be careful what you believe because get rich quick makes for phrases like “there’s a sucker born every minute”.  That’s why these infomercials repeat themselves so often.  They catch all the suckers out there minute after minute.

Get Rich Quick aka GRQ Scams Ruin It for The Rest of Us

Deceptive marketing is alive and well today more than ever before.   The availability of media everywhere is the deceptive marketer’s dream.  Make it look good, sell the sizzle, and make big money regardless of the quality or the reality.

So my advice to you is this…Watch out.  DO NOT fall for the get rich quick schemes and scams and their false promises, no matter what.  You should know better!

4. Make your batch processes as efficient as you can – like clock-work – and stick with it for the long haul.

Batch processing is the only way you can do this.  Write articles in batches when things flow.  Divide them into more articles and edit them in batches.

Then set them up to automatically post in batches.  Write your eBook in a batch process or burst time-frame.  Market it in batches, and so on.  Batch process everything you do.

Without batch processing, you will not divide and conquer your tasks in massive concentrated efforts like you should.  It’s called working efficiently within an effectiveness model.

Read the book 4 Hour Work Week…

to understand the whole working in batch processing thing.  I actually, all my life since I was in high school, worked this way.  I just never formally codified it like that book did.  But I believe in this concept and so do most people.

Batching is a way of finding order and organization to get things done within an often unorganized and chaotic world.  The world of blogging is no different.  Batch it.

5. Don’t chase the small stuff (20%) at the expense of the big stuff (80% yes the 80-20 rule for enduring bloggers) per the previous 4 points.

This means…

Don’t spend a lot of time on something that has little value or return on investment.  If you spend more time on surfing than on writing content, that is an example.

This rule forces you to prioritize the most important tasks and to avoid being undercut by the tasks that you need to minimize and prevent from thieving your time.

6. Do seek continuous improvements through SWOT analysis (examining strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) and through the use of metrics and analytics.  These give you a grade to see how well you do something or where you could do better.

You need such feedback tools to help you get optimized.  The web 2.0 world is full of such tools being shared collaboratively to the benefit of all.  Implement such opportunities to get better.

8 Must-do’s After You Start Your Own Money Making Blog

Ok, so you’ve launched your money-making blog…

That’s it right? Is your blog campaign one of whenever you want to post?  Not hardly, if you’re blogging to make money.

Truly, as a blogger, speaking from experience, your blogging will never get you to where you want it unless you get what I’m about to tell you, and become a self-disciplined machine.

Let me say that again…you have to be a self-disciplined machine to achieve your goals and make money online blogging.

Do these things exactly and you will prosper and become as great as any A-page blogger. Am I an A page blogger yet? No, not yet.

But I am experimenting from several different angles and in some of my sites or blogs, I have had much more success when even I follow the advice I’m going to give you here.

Top bits of post-launch advice for starting your blog

1. I know, I said this before, but I can’t overemphasize it – Write as much valuable content in advance as you humanly can.  It’s all about the content.

Not enough content and you won’t last long.  That’s the way it works.  With enough content, you can truly have time in between for setting it up to post and starting more content and niche eBook information products to sell!

2. Post at least 2-3 times per week but always with a great article or post. No great article, no post.  This forces you to write more excellent and quality content and not just stuff to throw out there.

You must create VALUE for your readers.  That is your goal when you write.  If it has no value, it is junk and will not make you any money.

These two rules will force you to post 2-3 times a week with good content and will help your blog in volumes, for quality, traffic and eventually to make money blogging as you get more exposure and eventually sales for your niche product.

But first – build trust – for anyone to even consider buying what you sell.  You create trust by creating excellent and free content such as blog posts and newsletters, ezine articles and free reports or free eBooks first.

As people trust your content quality, they will come to trust what you’re offering for sale.

3. Another piece of post-launch advice – prepare and set up your routine and stick to it!  This means you have to definitely develop a highly effective routine to develop your content and post to your blog.
